What Is Insula Somatics?

Insula Somatics is a neuroscience-informed therapeutic coaching approach that helps bridge the connection between the mind, body, and nervous system.
The name comes from two meaningful concepts: insula and somatics. The insula is a deeply located region of the brain involved in interoception, often described as the body’s “8th sense.” Interoception helps us notice and interpret internal body signals such as heart rate, breath, tension, discomfort, hunger, emotion, and stress responses.
Somatics comes from the Greek word soma, meaning the living body experienced from within. Somatic practices focus on body-based awareness and nervous system regulation, helping people gently work with stored stress, trauma, grief, and overwhelm in ways that go beyond thought alone.
At Insula Somatics, this work combines neuroscience, somatic awareness, breathwork, writing practices, and therapeutic coaching to support people navigating toxic stress, burnout, grief, trauma recovery, chronic pain, and emotional overwhelm.
Rather than focusing only on what you think, Insula Somatics helps you understand what your body is communicating, how your nervous system responds to stress, and how to build a more grounded, connected relationship with yourself and others.
