What is the Insula and Somatics?
What is the Insula?
Understanding the part of the brain connected to body awareness, emotion, and inner wisdom.
The insula is a small but powerful region of the brain that helps us notice what is happening inside the body. It plays an important role in interoception, which is the ability to sense internal body signals such as breath, heartbeat, temperature, tension, hunger, pain, emotion, and stress. In simple terms, the insula helps translate the body’s inner experience into awareness. This is one of the reasons the name Insula Somatics is so meaningful. Somatic work is rooted in listening to the body, noticing internal signals, and rebuilding connection with the self from the inside out.

What is Somatics?
A body-based approach to awareness, healing, and reconnection.
Somatics is a body-based approach that focuses on how we experience life from the inside out. Rather than only talking or thinking through what we feel, somatic work invites us to notice what is happening in the body — breath, tension, sensation, emotion, posture, and nervous system responses.
At Insula Somatics, somatic work supports people navigating stress, burnout, grief, chronic pain, emotional overwhelm, parenting, caretaking, identity shifts, and life transitions.
